Vong Sauth Launches Commune Council Election Campaign in Ponhea Kraek District

Tbong Khmum: Chairman of the National Assistance Team for Ponhea Kraek District, Tbong Khmum Province, Vong Sauth led members of the Cambodian People's Party to start the election campaign on Saturday morning, 21 May.

Vong Sauth, as the leader of the most seasoned political party on this occasion, told the party members who participated in this campaign to always uphold the dignity of the National Election Committee (NEC). He also called on political parties, candidates, and supporters to abide by the rules, regulations, and principles set out in the Law on Commune/Sangkat Council Election, and adhere to the rules and procedures, ethics, and principles set to ensure that the election campaign for Commune/Sangkat Councilors runs smoothly, securely, without intimidation, and without violence.

At the same time, the National Election Committee (NEC) also called on all local authorities to take a neutral position in their work and to coordinate the location, road, and time for each political party to implement their programs and their campaign marches to ensure equality and ensure that no discrimination or violence occurs.

The 14-day election campaign runs from 21 May to 3 June and is held every five years. Each party can hold a gathering, campaign marches by foot or by vehicles, hand out flyers, promote through speakers, or publish videos to promote their political programs and seek support from the electorate.

The 5th Commune/Sangkat Council Election will be held on 5 June with the participation of 17 political parties: Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), Candlelight Party, FUNCINPEC, Khmer National United Party (KNUP), Cambodian Nation Love Party (CNLP), Cambodian Nationality Party, Cambodian Youth Party (CYP), Khmer Will Party, Cambodian Reform Party, Kampucheaniyum Party (KP), Grassroots Democratic Party (GDP), Beehive Social Democratic Party (BSDP), Khmer National United Party (KNUP), Indigenous People’s Democratic Party (IPDP), Khmer United Party (KUP), Reaksmey Khemara Party, and Khmer Economic Development Party (KEDP). These parties will compete to hold commune council seats which is 11,622 nationwide from 1,652 communes/Sangkat, with more than 9.2 million registered voters.
